So, like a month ago, I went out to Nashoba Valley Winery with the girlfriend to help her get wine for her Mom's surprise birthday party and what do I see...? Well well well, it seems they do a little brewing out there, too!
a 5.2% ABV 'Pale Lager' a super clean, golden straw pour.. a very nice pure white head on it. The nose is unlike the appearance, however, and is very lackluster. It does have clean lager-esque wheat and malt notes, but has something funky underneath.. a weird grassy, barnyard type funk, but not in the good way you'd expect from Brett for example. It just seems off.. and the taste isn't any better really. It has a decent malt profile.. super toasty crackers, like graham without the sweetness. But there's little else.. a bit of that weird grassy funk, no real hops, and weird, fruity stale tastes.. I had read up on some halfway decent reviews.. maybe a bad batch/bottle or a really old bottle.. It's worth a shot to try some of their other stuff if I get the chance, but this wasn't that great

Nashoba Valley Winery - New England Cider
a 6.0% ABV dry Cider - well, this is worth a shot too! But dear sweet baby Jesus on a stick! That looks like water! Ok, maybe water with a touch of lime juice added... but seriously, I've never seen any beer or cider this damn white.. good god! The nose is a typical cider nose, sweet crisp apples, touches of white wine and floral notes. But here comes the pale again.. this has almost no taste. It's like cheap, mass-produced baby apple juice is watered down ten-fold with water and given a little carbonation. Yes, there's fresh-pressed apples and apple skin, there's a little citrus, a little tart.. but you've really gotta let this sit in your mouth for a while to discern anything from it. There's no way this is a bad bottle or anything.. this just isn't good!
