Hurricane Schmurricane

Yeah.. it's a hurricane.  But as of now, I've still got power and I've got a ton of beers, put a bunch in the fridge ahead of time.  Got let out of work early.. fingers crossed for no work tomorrow.  That means drinking time!

Opa Opa - Pumpkin Ale.  'tis the season! right?  Well, here's another pumpkin for my taste buds!  5.0% ABV  Golden orange pour, average head.  Nose is par-for-the-course with Pumpkin ales..  light, sweet malts, pumpkin, spices, vanilla.  Again, average beer here.  Some fresh pumpkin taste, but touches of canned pumpkin pie mix as well.. typical spice profile, caramel/toffee malts.  Fading sweetness to the finish, a touch dry.  This was nice, and for $5, you can't go wrong.  But it was simply mediocre.

Yuengling - Oktoberfest.  A 5.2% ABV, 26 IBU seasonal offering from the folks who won't distribute to MA: Yuengling!  I picked up this gem whilst in GA - there's more to come from that haul.  Oktoberfest is brewed to be a true-to-style Marzen - a lovely amber/brown hue with a quickly fading head.  Nutty malts dominate the nose with hints of citrus and floral hops.  Honey sweet malts.. faint toffee and nuttiness to the taste.  A slightly weird fizz/acidity to this one in the middle that fades to a smooth, rich sweetness.  Seems like a slightly maltier version of the standard Yuengling, but a nice version of an Oktoberfest.  More trust to the standard that what most brewers offer, however.

Aaaaand, next up! Hayride Autumn Ale by Baxter!  Their 6.6% ABV fall seasonal.  Simply loving the can!   It's a fall rye beer aged on ginger, peppercorns, orange peel and American oak.. WOW!  This is the perfect ruby brown pour with a fluffy off-white head.  The noise just pops out of the can!  It quite simply smells like fall.  Note of the rye malts with piney hops, hints of orange and wood.  Crisp and bright with a huge spice character from the rye.  Citrus comes through at the beers warms slightly with mild nutty malts.  Honey, oak, citrus, spice..  this seasonal has it all!  Baxter kills it again!
