Georgia- pt II

..told ya there was more!

New Belgium - Red Hoptober   New fall seasonal from New Belgium at 6.0% ABV and 45 IBU's, dark amber/brown pour, terrific nutty aroma.  Sweet nutty and malty taste, hints of pine wood, caramel and a slight vanilla sweetness underneath it all.  Wish this had just a bit more body, but a really nice change of pace for a fall seasonal.

New Belgium - Ranger IPA  6.5% ABV and 70 IBU's - dedicated to their "Beer Rangers" loyal NB fanboys..  golden straw-colored, heady  Heavy citrus nose, floral, some grass, lacks some depth.  Straightforward IPA, not huge, but not really lacking either, nice mix of East-meets-West coast styles.

Red Brick - Laughing Skull   5.7% ABV amber - very very light and golden.. very unlike an amber, hint of spice and hops in the nose, little bit of not much else.  definitely lacking all the major points of an amber here.. not sure what they were going for at all..

SweetWater - Exodus Porter  6.2% ABV and 25 IBU's  First brewed on Bob Marley's birthday a few years back..  Great dark pour, minimal head.. heavy roasted malt nose with hints of bitter chocolate.  A bit light in body, but full flavor.. smooth chocolates, faintly smokey and just a touch of hops.  Might be the name, might be the beer, but definitely felt a bit mellow after this one!

Terrapin - Hop Karma Brown IPA  6.0% ABV and 65 IBU's   Ruby/brown pour, heady.. perfect blend of nutty/roasty with citrus and piney hops.  Smooth.. roasted coffee, nutty breads and caramel malts, just a touch of bright citrus hops on the finish.. just a described!  Solid

New Belgium - 1554 Black Lager  5.6% ABV and 21 IBU's   Resurrected from an old Belgian text..  Malty, chocolates, nutty, hints of candied fruits and a Belgian yeasty ester.  Again, a touch light for my taste, but bold, rich flavors.. like the baby brother of a great Quad, perfect blend of Belgian and a Black ale..

The winners from Georgia were SweetWater for solid offerings and Terrapin for pushing the edge in the South.

Hell of a trip!  Let's do it again, folks!
