More Winter 2012 and Bottling Day

Well, howdy!  Got some more winter seasonals for ya as well as some updates on the latest homebrew!!

Lovely looking brew getting transferred to the bottling bucket..  actually a bit more golden than it looks in this picture.  It'll be a Belgian-style pineapple Wit..  with a tentative (and offensive) name of Overdose on Pineapple Wit-ney Houston.  Too soon?  Blame you local brewer!  I got part of the suggestion by one.. but I ain't gonna cause a Backlash and name the brewer..  naw, that'd be wrong.  Anyway.. it's a Wit, with orange peel, coriander, light Belgian candi sugar featuring a citra dry hop along with 40oz of crushed pineapple.. BOOM!  First taste has a lot of potential..we'll see in a few weeks!!

And you've gotta have some beer while homebrewing.. it'd be a sin not to!  #1 - Mayflower - Winter Oatmeal Stout, a lovely offering at 6.0% ABV.  A crazy oily, tar-black pour with a mocha head that all but disappeared..and the nose hits you right away.  Roasted coffee and malts, some nice milk chocolate and background hints of smoke..  some vanilla and toffee.  A silky smooth brew with a surprisingly light body.  Chocolate, bitter dark chocolate, rich iced coffee and some vanilla..  but tons of roasted malts with nice oatmeal sweetness.  A bit of the smoky/burnt coffee qualities come through on the finish, rounding out the taste..  nose following taste and vice versa.  Exactly what you'd expect from an Oatmeal Stout with an easily drinkable body.. damned good.
Not a true winter seasonal per se, but a beer that's released in the winter only... and is local, AND delicious?  Sign me up! CBC (Cambridge Brewing Company) - Bannatyne's Scotch Ale at 9.2% ABV.  A lovely copper, nutty brown pour with a fluffly head.  Slightly subdued nose, but lovely nonetheless.  Light toasted breads, some caramel, toffee notes, nuttiness, apple pie and hints of raisins..  but all light in nature.  Despite the almost 10%, this remains light and true-to-form.   Some fruity sweet notes in the taste, but weighing heavily on the sweet malts, leaning towards crisp and light.  Molassess, caramel, toffee are all present along with some chocolate.. but remember, not like a stout or porter.. all light and sweet.  A bit of the tell-tale peat and rich fruit in the finish..  a fantastic offering by CBC!  so glad they decided to begin bottling!
And I'd bet you a bottle of my homebrew that you don't have a cuter assistant to help you brew/bottle!

(or a sexier brewer)
