What up, Zoe? How you doin.... yeah, buddy.. that's Maine Beer Co's - Zoe! What about it? a 7.2% hoppy Amber Ale.. hell yeah! Simplistic label that just makes ya wanna smile. And according to RateBeer.com.. it's the #2 Amber Ale in the world! Boom! Another crazy heady pour with a ruby brown hue.. the nose is fairly subdued, but definite grapefruit/citrus hops with some piney spice and a little caramel malts. Holy freakin hops... Amber ale.. naw, yo. this is straight kickin hops here! A little malts..caramel and hints of toasty-ness, but full on hops. Almost the full spectrum of hops here.. starts kinda citrusy.. going to grassy and finishing piney.. oily resin hops throughout. There are notes of orange/lemon peel and a faint chocolate malty finish to smooth it out. The amber aspect was slightly lacking, but this was a great beer!
Finished the night off with another of the Harpoon 100 Barrel Series - #33 Glacier Harvest '10 Wet Hop Ale. 6.7% ABV and 38 IBUs.. a little late for this one, but it's holding up quite well! The hops have faded a bit from the nose, but the malts were still there.. muddled and sweet, but there. The same followed true for the taste.. muddled, sorta sweet malts dominated, faintly caramel with a super hidden hop profile. I'm dumb.. this probably would've been great 8 or 9 months ago and I just sat on it too long.. Not much more to say on this.. it definitely wasn't bad, but the age mellowed out every aspect to where it seemed like a warm malty brew with a faint bitter finish, even when cold. Moral of the story.. drink your beers kids! They can go bad!
