Sixpoint Saturday

Another Saturday.. another time for more beer!  Let's have a theme tonight!

Sixpoint Saturday

Had the Diesel kicking around from last year..  but hey, it's a stout..  so should be fine!  6.3% ABV and 69 IBU, this isn't yo normal stout (technically a black IPA meets a stout).  Sixpoint is known for making hoppy stuff, and this is no exception.  Nice black pour, minimal head...  the nose is fairly prominent, but not overpowering.  Chocolates, some smoke and espresso, and some pine/grassy hops.  Rather slick and light in mouthfeel for a stout.  Anise, licorice and the hops are up front.  Roasty malts, pine..  Surprisingly the hops survived the approximate 1 year in the can and the malts seem to have muted a bit.  Roasty and bitter, the aftertaste is a bit sweet, but seems slightly off..

Next in line - Brownstone, their 6.0% ABV, 45 IBU Brown ale.   Rich amber brown pour, average white head.  Nutty and sweet malts in the aroma.  As expected, a fairly prominent hop aroma comes about.. grassy and floral.  Sweet caramel malts and a whole wheat bready, nutty flavor is up front.  Nice notes of oak and mossy wood sneak in behind, followed by a bit more sweetness with some piney and grass hops.  Like the Diesel, it was a bit watery and light, but unlike it, it was not aged.  Decent brown, but it seems to be a bit light and lacking the pop to make it great; can't quite place it.. it's that indescribable essence..  it's just not here
