Finally Wine!

DEAR GOD!  It's finally happened!  I'm reviewing WINE!  The perks of working at a liquor store is that I get to take home the half open bottles that are left over from wine tastings!  Yeah yeah..I've brought some home before..but housed them before I had the chance to review  haha!

This month our 'Wine of the Month' is a 2009 Puydeval Vin de Pays D'Oc, a 62% Cabernet Franc, 28% Syrah and 10% Merlot blend at 14% ABV from the Languedoc region of France.  A wonderfully smooth, beautifully deep rich red wine...black cherries, plum and a hint of spice on the nose.  Rather light for such a rich, strong wine but with intense and smooth dark fruit flavors.  Blackberry, plum, black cherries shine through with touches of spice and earthy notes on the finish.  A terrific red blend that will appeal to even non-red drinkers and a steal at under $14.  Fruity, bold, smooth, rich yet light...  just delicious!

Next we tasted the the 2009 Creme de Lys Chardonnay.  If you're familiar with Chardonnay's, you've probably heard of La Crema.  A different spin on a Chardonnay, La Crema is fuller bodied, slightly creamy, buttery..some of the sharp oaky flavors indicative of Chardonnay's are lacking, making it a broadly pleasing wine.  This, Creme de Lys at 13.5% ABV, is a slightly economy version of La Crema.   Vanilla, pear and apple on the nose give way to a rich, buttery taste with hints of mango, pineapple, Granny Smith apple and a sweet dessert-like flavor to finish it out .  Wonderfully smooth and complex, yet simple, this value wine will appeal to any wine-drinker

Finally, we also tasted a 2010 '3' Brooms Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand at 13% ABV.  Pear, grapefruity-citrus, lime, mandarin oranges in the aroma.  This wine is exceptionally crisp and much more tart white grapefruit tastes come into play than with most other Sauv Blancs.  Very light and straightforward, citrus, lime and tartness pull through the entire taste of the wine with a lingering mild sweetness to produce a fantastically refreshing Sauvignon Blanc that is unique among a recent influx Marlborough wines as of recent.
