Post-St. Paddy's "Snow Day"

So, it's the day after St. Patrick's Day, gotta get yourself back to level, right?  AND it's like 70 today here in New England?  Well, a beer named ironically to drink today seems like a good choice!

Gotta give a special shout out to a fellow beer lover from Staten Island, my college friend Kirk!  Send up this little beauty along with some homebrews a few weeks back and finally getting around to enjoy it.  New Belgium - Snow Day.. a delightful brew at 6.2% ABV and 55 IBUs  Apparently brewed with a new malt variety, this is a smooth, rich and hoppy brew in a way I haven't tasted before!  Deep brown pour with a lovely head.  An all-out citrus/piney hop profile greets your nose with just a hint of roasted malt.  Light and smooth body but full on flavor, again the hops dominate, but never overpower with bitterness.  The smoothness comes from the unique malts, combining caramel sweetness, some nutty and toasty notes and finally dark chocolate.  Mild hops with roasted malts linger on the finish, damn this would be fantastic in front of a fire during a snowstorm!!  (too bad Boston had diddly-squat for snow this year - sad face)

And my friends, one is never enough.  So in case you haven't heard..

Yep, that's right.. the ALLIES WIN THE WAR!!!!  ALLIES WIN THE WAR!  Well, yeah.. that happened like 67 years ago.. but still, it's something to drink to!  Hooray, Allies!  A collabo by Ninkasi of Oregon and  21st Amendment of San Fran.. an English Strong at 8.5% ABV and 52 IBUs brewed with dates!  Huzzah! A super deep amber brown.. some very nice piney hops in the nose, along with more subtle sweet malts and rich stone fruits.  And people, c'mon, it's an English Strong.. don't drink this super cold!!  Of course it's too carbed and the flavors don't shine.  At the right temp, it's terrifically smooth and rich, the malts and dates taking you by the balls into a whirlwind of heavy sweetness.  Caramel and toffee.. raisins..brown sugar.. dates of course.  There's hints of nice hops poking through near the end, but are pushed aside by some toasty notes, daring you to take another sip.  So raise a glass to kicking ass in 1945 and indulge in this killer brew!
