International Beer Day!

Last week was a great week to be a beer drinker!  Thursday, August 4th was IPA Day and Friday, August 5th was International Beer Day!  For IPA Day I enjoyed a lovely Stone IPA, to be reviewed a bit later on, and got to check out the Chihuly exhibit at the MFA Boston...  here's a little sample of his stuff:
It's all hand-blown glass, assembled piece by piece.  Unbelievable!  If you ever get the chance to see any of his work, highly highly recommended!.  As for International Beer Day, I got a BRAND NEW beer from Craft Beer Cellar in Belmont.

GROUNDSWELL!
From Backlash Brewery based out of Boston, their FIRST beer ever: Groundswell!  Holy Hell!  From first glance, the bottle alone wants to kick your teeth in!  Not visible, due to my poor photography skills is a nice black wax-dipped cap with a rasied knucks stamp on top...SWEET!  This is only available in 22oz bombers and on tap (I HAVE to find out where, that'd be epic) and for now, super-limited quantities.  It was released at most 2 weeks ago and the distributors are already sold out! At 22 IBUs but 7.3% ABV this beer means business!  A Belgian-style Blonde Ale..a new one for me.  This beast poured a golden coppery with a ridiculously foamy, white head and instantly filled the room with its beautiful musk.  A super malty nose and hints of traditional Belgian ale spices come through with traces of syrupy sweet  molasses and toasted grains mixed with slight citrusy esters.  The taste is just WOW.  The blonde ale characteristics take a back seat to the 'Belgian' style, most likely from the yeasts used.  Tons of full-bodied malts prevail in the taste with spice and slight hints of alcohol.  The finish is totally creamy, sweet toasted malts with dashes of orange, grapefruit and nectarine mingled it.  It's tough to even describe this beer besides DAMN.  Considering there's basically NONE left, try now to find a bar that hasn't kicked their keg yet or wait til (and IF) Backlash brews another batch!

*I've got an extra bottle if someone wants to share!

Besides savoring a Fisherman's Brew Amber Ale (again, to be reviewed later) I ended the night with the guilty pleasure, Dogfish Head Festina Peche.  Their summer seasonal that is brewed with peach concentrate, it's a super chick beer..BUT I LOVE IT!  One of my favorite candies is those gummy peach rings and this taste like a bottle of delicious weissbier had a night of glory with a bag of peachy rings!  At 4.5% ABV and only 12 IBUs this is certainly a candidate for a killer session beer, if you like the fruity and sour style.  A super fizzy pour, peaches and a crisp sweetness billowed from the glass.  The sour carbonation comes from the secondary bottle fermentation with the peach concentrate, giving a super-refreshing crisp profile with citrus notes hidden behind the powerful peach and sour tastes.  Leaves a tingling sweetness on the tounge.  Guilty pleasure?  Yes!  Delicious and refreshing?  Oh hell yeah!  Ain't afraid to admit I love it!
