MNF @ The Gaff

Went down to a bar in town to catch Monday Night Football with a friend and catch up...awesome beer bar!  All together they only have maybe 30 beers, but 90% are crafts..with Schlitz, PBR and a few others for them hipsters...  don't even get me started!!  It's called The Gaff..if you're in the greater Boston area, check it out!!
They have some stuff on tap that most places don't even offer in bottles, good shit!  The phone camera pics I tried taking came out horrid..too dark, and the flash made the bottle too blurry to read..gotta figure out a good way to document in bars!  But I was able to find some stock photos online.. gonna steal 'em!  First off, I tried Great Divide Brewery's Samurai Rice Ale.. thought, why the hell not?!  Rice Ale..never heard of one, Rice Krispies were the first thing that came to mind HAHAH.   5.1%ABV and no clue on the IBU's... the nose on this one is verrrrrrrrrry unique.  Kinda smells slightly foul..a little like an old cheese that isn't quite moldy, a little bit of a weird sweetness and some citrus notes. The taste was very off-putting at first, like a summer ale that was a bit past its prime, lemony, bland grains, bready malts, highly carbonated, guessing the rice taste is in the bland grain notes..definitely a unique taste, partially due to the rice.  Low levels of lingering hops, quickly astringent aftertaste..overall unique, crisp, rather refreshing if you can appreciate the different taste.

Next I went for the Flying Dog Raging Bitch Belgian IPA..  WOOOO-WEEE!  this bitch sure was'a raging!  8.3% ABV and 60 IBU's, more bitch than some can handle!  Poured a gorgeous coppery red, very heady and a huge hop aroma with citrus and sweetness mingled in, way more of a double IPA nose.  The taste was phenomenal despite the ABV..no sign of it at all!  Far less hops to the taste than an IPA, or even a double IPA..must be the 'Belgian' in this Belgian-style beer..  rich sweetness (banana-ish..Belgian yeast maybe?) and somewhat piney hop taste like the Troegenator, but far less fruity.  Some herb/spice notes mingled in, very full on the palate..incredibly flavorful, incredibly good!  If you like IPA's but aren't too keen on the hops aroma/taste in them..give this guy a shot!  or if you just wanna order a fun-sounding beer!!  go ahead, you know you want to order a Raging Bitch and shiftily look at your girl (or guy) when you do!!
